Looking in the Mirror and Loving Who You See

When you look in the mirror, who do you see?  A beautiful person who is doing the best he or she can to navigate life’s journey?  Do you trust (and believe) that the answers you are seeking will arrive at just the right time? Do you feel confident in the path you are taking through life?

It’s very common to rush through our day on auto-pilot.  Not really seeing and appreciating our amazing existence.  Our ever-growing to-do list and overwhelming demands of our day taking away our ability to be present and to simply “be”.  And, for some people, the automatic negative thoughts become stronger when pausing from the busy-ness of life. It may even feel scary when the self-doubt grabs a hold of our heart and tightens our stomach. The self-defeating thoughts and the lack of love (for ourselves) push us into a life of do-do-do (rather than a balanced do-be-do-be life).  A life where we focus our energy on external validation and prioritize the well-being of others over our own.

What will it take for you to remove the barrier – brick by brick – as you begin to really see yourself? Are you ready to look yourself in the mirror and say “I Love You” and mean it?  How does that feel?  What happens when you say this to yourself?  Do you believe it?  Or do you feel resistance and disbelief?  Maybe thoughts like “I am not good enough” come up.

Try this “I Love You” exercise at the next available opportunity.  If you notice resistance, gently explore this resistance.  It’s important to explore all of your emotions – especially those you are resisting. Become aware of times in your day when you feel your heart filling up with love – pay attention to what you are doing and who you are with.  Recognize situations when you feel in “flow” and the time moves effortlessly forward and you feel good. Keep track of the good times and the not so good times and look for ways to bring more good times into your life.

Are you aware of your needs and what really fills your heart with joy and love? Is it easy for you to come up with your “good times” list?  How about the “in flow” list?  Having a strong awareness of your self and your true personality can help you feel more grounded, happier and more at peace (and make it easier to find times when you feel in flow).  How self-aware are you?  Maybe it’s time to explore life coaching.  Strengthen your self-awareness so that you can begin living a life where you can look in the mirror and believe it!!
