Strength through Vulnerability

Earlier today, as I sat in the peacefulness of my family cabin while my son and husband ventured out into the woods for deer hunting, I gazed out the window at the bare, leafless trees with their branches openly exposed to the cool, fall air. I considered how many of us keep pushing forward in life feeling stuck, overwhelmed and stressed. Often times we may be acting like we are OK, like we can handle the growing to do list and the increased responsibilities at home and work. Believing that we are on the right path, when we know deep in our heart, that there is a different, more joyful path… but life has taken us on a detour.

“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 NIV

When someone asks how we are doing, we put on a smile and say “OK”, but often inside we are struggling to hold it together. It’s hard for many of us to be honest and open, to ask for help, to say “no” to more work, to say “I am overwhelmed!”. We all try so hard to be strong and cover up any vulnerability and uncertainty. What we don’t realize is that it is OK to be vulnerable. It’s OK to question our life path and look for alternate routes. It’s OK to be honest and express our true feelings. Even though it is hard, when we try to cover it all up, it’s draining our strength day by day.

Do you wonder how different your life could be if you felt free to be more open with your feelings? Imagine sitting down with a trusted friend or family member and opening up about your struggles… taking the tightness and turmoil that you may be experiencing in your body and letting it break free.

Opening ourselves up like the leafless trees on a brisk November day in Wisconsin can help us to become so much stronger. Through honest vulnerability, strength builds within us. Our self love and the love of friends and family is amazingly powerful!

Sending you my love and hugs,
